JDR-Bot — Installation and getting started

JDR-Bot is available in four versions. Choose the one that fits your use:

🌐 Web version (no install)

Play directly in your browser, with nothing to install:

Works on PC, mobile and tablet. Supports sounds, images, videos and HUD. Official scenarios are available from the home screen.

🤖 Discord bot

To play in your Discord server:

  1. In any text channel, type /play showcase to launch the demo scenario
  2. Use /scripts to see all available scenarios

Main commands:

Command Description
/play name Launch a scenario by name or URL
/go destination Move to a room or enter a code
/take object Pick up an object
/inspect target Examine an object, a location or a variable
/inventory Show the inventory
/reply value Reply to a question (text variable)
/giveup Quit the current game
/help Show in-game help

💾 Local version (Windows / Mac / Linux)

The local version includes the bot, the graphical editor and the game engine — no internet connection required.

  1. Extract with 7-Zip (Windows) or p7zip (Mac/Linux)
  2. Run JDR-Bot-Local.exe (Windows) or jdr-bot-local (Mac/Linux)
  3. The web interface opens automatically in your browser

The graphical editor is accessible from the main menu.

🎮 Standalone HTML5 export

A scenario can be exported as a standalone HTML5 file playable in any browser, without a server. Perfect for sharing on itch.io or via direct link.

🎓 Where to start?

  1. Launch /play showcase (Discord) or choose showcase on the web — it's an interactive scenario that presents all features while playing
  2. Read Base syntax to write your first scenario
  3. Use the graphical editor to build visually without writing YAML
